Article at a glance:

  • The dangers of mold in your commercial property
  • Save your business thousands in mold removals fees with our easy tips

The health and safety of your staff and customers directly affects your bottom line. A sick staff member costs you money. A poor review or experience for a customer can create widespread negative opinions of your business. Mold is always growing, but if not managed, it can create financially crippling outcomes to your business.

The Dangers of Mold to your Business:

  1. Loss of Business - Do you enjoy entering a store that smells moldy? This unpleasant odour could easily turn potential customers away from your business. Just as it turns your away from other businesses. Even if the mold has not yet developed a smell, it has likely made itself known in the form of black or yellow stains on walls, ceilings and floors. But wiping it away doesn’t remove it properly (we’ll explain what you can do later).
  2. Damaged Goods - Mold doesn’t just grow on structural elements of your property, it can also develop on various goods. Clothing, furniture and other items can easily become covered in mold, leading to a huge decrease in revenue for you and your business. These items may not be able to be restored for sale and cost you more money again.
  3. Health Problems - When running a business, the health of staff and customers must always be considered. If not managed properly, both can lead to a poor reputation (negative news spreads much faster than positive) or even in the worse case scenario, taken to the courts.

How to save your business THOUSANDS:

  1. Keep Ahead of it - Mold may seem harmless in the beginning, but can grow in a matter of days to a dangerous level. Act quickly when you see it by scrubbing the growth away with vinegar and a toothbrush or sponge - don’t just wipe! If you’re concerned about regrowth, seek professional assistance. (Remember, in most cases what you see is just the surface of the problem).
  2. Protect your Stock - take care of stock and other items in your business by moving them away from visible mold. Contain the issue area and seek assistance in removing it. If any stock has already been affected, remove the mold with a hot wash immediately.
  3. Create Routine Checks of the Premises - Expensive mold problems can be avoided at a very small price by creating a routine check (perhaps monthly). Check if any parts of your property are exposed to moisture, check them every few weeks to ensure you do not have a mold outbreak. Another helpful resolution may be to tackle the root of the growth e.g. leaking taps or water damaged items.
